We are considering a combined day for ALL Urban Summer teams up in the bushfire affected areas.
I want us to consider what our unique contribution might be to those areas.
Perhaps it is a fair day, a concert, youth event, tree planting, whatever. But I don’t want to reinvent the wheel on this one.
We would certainly like to do something and have scheduled Wednesday 20 Jan to do it.
Comment here if you have ideas.

big need for fencing to be done at present in bushfire areas eg kinglake and kinglake west. contact Whittlesea and Nillumbik Shire Bushfire Recovery Fencing Coordinators via the appropriate shires. The technicians put in the star posts and do the tensioning. The volunteers would work in teams of 3-4 and thread in the fence wire. There are some physical safety guidelines but in fact the main risks are emotional ones, seeing the impact fires have had on individuals and on community. Farmers generally are not great communicators of gratitude, but volunteers can be assured they are greatly helped and appreciative of any help esp with this important job. Real feeling of achievement and a lot can be achieved in one day.
sports day for young people. traditional stuff for teenagers like cricket, softball, touch rugby/footy , soccer match all in shortened form, modified equipment and rules and small fields of play. Can squeeze everyone into oval preferably shaded areas. Team members act as refs and infiltrate teams as players also. Two teams – but everyone rotate around all sports.
For younger kids, sack race, tug of war, frisbee match.
Barbie lunch for everyone funds permitting.
